Tolerance Analysis: A Hands-On Training

…and how to survive mass production

Developing hardware is not easy. Stopping production to fix product errors is hard. Regaining customer trust after your product failed them is even harder. Discover and fix your errors early with the help of tolerance analysis.

Tolerance analysis allows you to verify your design performance. Reducing risk of delays and redesigns. It gives you a peace of mind that your design is robust and fulfills design requirements.

Learn how to assess the impact of component tolerances on your design with hands-on exercises, within a small group of fellow engineers.

Hands-on experience in small groups

b

10+ examples

You will gain hands-on experience, by gradually increasing example complexity. From simple divider to SMPS macro model. Given examples will help you to bootstrap your own simulation effort.

Max. 10 people

In this setting we can make sure everyone is following, and nobody is left behind. A small group promotes good discussion and allows all questions to be answered.

2 Days

By the end of the training, you’ll have the confidence and skills to independently perform tolerance analyses on your own.

Day 1

  • What is tolerance analysis
  • Who and when should perform it
  • Business impact of R&D quality
  • Worst case corner analysis in LTspice
  • Modeling of error sources
  • From simple divider to LDO macro-model
  • Modifying SPICE models for tolerance analysis

Day 2

  • Worst case analysis of switched-mode power supply
  • Introduction to statistical analysis
  • Distributions and probabilities
  • Statistical modeling in LTspice
  • Defining pass/fail criteria
  • Automated post processing in Excel
  • Comparison of worst case, statistical analysis, and real world data

“Good understanding of the real need for reliability and quality. Great guidance style, with attentive personal care and thorough follow-ups”

Vasil Zarkov, Hardware Engineer

“Thank you for the training Jan. You are one of the best and most engaging lecturers I’ve had the pleasure of learning from. We would love to have you back for other trainings!”

Iliyan Antov, Hardware Engineer

” It was a great and energetic session. Keep up the good work!”

Rithwik Manu , Hardware Engineer

“Thank you for giving us the “fire”. It was great meeting you and be able to talk about this topic. Your approach was really good and well-structured.
I hope we see for some other training in the very near future!”

Teodor Botsov, Hardware Engineer

“Thank you for the pleasant time at the two-day training. It was inspiring and informative.
I have to admit, I usually tend to fall asleep during training, but this time I didn’t feel sleepy even once. :)”

Jan Parkaman, R&D Hardware Engineer

“Thanks Jan Petrik for the professional preparation. With a rating of 9.2/10 from the feedback and the fact that everyone would go to the training again if they could go back in time, it gives me confidence that we are doing a very beneficial thing for our HW developers.”

Jan Kriz
Head of Hardware Development, BTL Medical & Healthcare Technologies

On-site training

I will travel to your facility to host the training in-person for your entire engineering team. Saves on travel time and accommodation cost of your engineers. On-site training also improves engineer attendance, as not all engineers are able or willing to travel. Minimum order for onsite training is 5 people.

Course fee: 1000€  per participant + travel expenses

Please inquire for a custom proposal

open course

The course is open to everyone. You will meet colleagues from different companies and countries. Compare your experience and workflows, meet new colleagues, make new connections. You will have to arrange your own accommodation and travel.

Course fee: 1200€  per participant

Next open course: Q1/2025 in Munich, Germany
